My New York Stories

My New York Stories - the Retrospectives

created on 4/11/2007

On March 6th, 2007, I closed down my storage room in SoHo, Manhattan and moved all the rest of my belongings (by hands) to Chicago. There were not that many stuffs to move anyway. However, this "move" also symbolized a closure: I no longer have anything to do with New York City. All right, I still have some friends there. And looking at my resume, most of my significant work experiences are related to New York City. I guess "I can take myself out of New York City, but cannot take New York City out of me." (What a cheesy way to put it!)

Anyway, mentally, I am no longer a New Yorker.

From 2000 to 2006, I lived on and off for about 3 years in New York City. It was exciting yet painful; I gained a lot but lost even more (not only financially, but especially my faith about others). The failure over and over and over again to achieve my dreams eventually left me so bitter that I could not even move on. So I really need a "closure" with New York City. Though now it is only my No. 51 favorite city in the world (See my Top 50 Favorite Cities List here), this New York experience definitely will remain the most important and unforgettable (with a city) in my life.

So at the eve of another big trip and the day with a number that symbolizes my biggest misfortune in NYC (look at today's date). I commemorate this page about my stories of dreams and heartbreaks, and dedicate this page to New York.

They are in chronological order
